UPC Faculty Member and Students Obtain Top Prize in Festival De Viña Del Mar in Chile

Dany Yacila, faculty member, and Leonardo Monge and Jorge Almora, students of the School of Music at Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC) and members of the musical group Afrocandela won the Gaviota de Plata in the category “Best Folklore Interpretation and Performance,” in the recent edition of the Festival de Viña del Mar in Chile.

The group was recognized during the festival for their song Baila mi festejo, interpreted by Gabriela Hayre and composed by singer Maribel Chira. The group obtained the highest honor of the contest, beating Ceci Méndez (Argentina), Trifussa (Chile), Puerto Sabana (Colombia), 4 Harmony (Haiti), and Lydia Arosemena (Venezuela) in the folklore category.

UPC, along with the Laureate network, congratulates the group for their outstanding performance in this international festival and reaffirms its strong commitment to high-quality education that promotes success at both the national and international level.
