Universidade Salvador Celebrates Third Graduation of the Gastromotiva Program
Thirty-seven young people are part of the Gastromotiva program’s third graduation class at Universidade Salvador (UNIFACS). The graduation ceremony took place at the university’s Paralela campus on October 21 and was attended by friends and family of the graduates as well as university leadership. During the ceremony, students recognized the work of Professor Cristian Gonzalez and course coordinator Tarsila Lima.
Since 2014, 112 young people have benefitted from the free program, which provides training in the field of culinary arts and offers the students training in cooking, baking, eco-gastronomy and regional cooking. Blending theory and hands-on training, the program prepares graduates for professional success. “In addition to providing them with a solid foundation of skills to prepare them for success in the field of culinary arts, we seek to show them that they need to help those around them as well”, said Lima.
For Lorena Almeida, who was part of the first group of students to participate in the Gastromotiva program, the program was fundamental in making a change in her life. “Through the program I learned techniques and gained experience that made me very employable and have helped me improve my life. A few weeks after completing the programs I was already employed at a local restaurant and within five months earned a promotion to head chef. Thanks to Gastromotiva, I am in a career with great potential that I really enjoy,” she said.
This sentiment was shared by others who have gone through the program. “Only God knows what I went through to get here, the difficulties I had to face on a day-to-day basis. I am sad to see the program come to an end because I have learned so much,” said recent graduate Hebert Rodrigues. “Now we have to apply what we have learned to reach our potential,” he added.
Young people may apply to participate in the Gastromotiva throughout the year. Learn more about the program here.
