Universidade Potiguar Alumni Recognized as Best Chef in Rio Grande do Norte

The best chef in Rio Grande do Norte is a graduate from Universidade Potiguar (UnP). Daniel Simplício was named the state champion in the Dolma National Award, one of the the top awards in Brazilian cuisine. This year the award brought together 64 chefs from 18 states throughout Brazil. After competing with two other colleagues, Simplício, who earned undergradaute and graduate degrees in culinary arts from UnP, was named the winner.The awards ceremony took place in Recife, Pernambuco. All winning chefs took home a bronze figurine signed by artist Léo Santana. 

“The main objective of the initiative is to enhance, promote, and especially recognize the professional capacity of chefs who are contributing to the growth of the Brazilian economy,”

said founder and organizer of the prize, Geraldo Guerra Júnior.

The news was celebrated by UnP’s School of Culinary Arts. “It is immensely gratifying to know that one of our graduates has been recognized by the leaders of the culinary universe. We have helped develop many top chefs and have many more in development. This is enhancing the state’s cuisine, with top restaurants and bistros being opened and managed by our alumni,” concluded Professor Annamaria Nobrega, the coordinator of UnP’s School of Culinary Arts. 

The Director of Hospitality and Culinary Arts for Laureate Brasil, Rosa Moraes, noted that the quality of the faculty and the support of the university provides students with the opportunity to reach their potential, resulting in strong professional advancement. “A solid and comprehensive training makes all the difference when students enter the labor market. This important award received by Daniel Simplício demonstrates that,” she said.
