Universidad del Valle de México Student Entrepreneur Creates New Company
Margarita Espinoza, a student at Universidad del Valle de México’s Chapultepec campus, dreams of internationalizing the company she created, “El Artesano”, which creates 100 percent natural jams and marmalades that are high in vitamin C and have no added sugar. Her new enterprise offers a wide variety of different flavors and combinations, including guava and mango, sold in quantities of 250 grams.
Espinoza, who is from Puebla, earned a scholarship from UVM and enrolled in the university’s executive undergraduate program in international business. She said, “this financial support is helping me a great deal, as it enables me to use my financial resources to keep investing in my business. You could say that the university is joining me in supporting this new enterprise.”
For the moment, “El Artesano” products are sold through local stores. But, based on initial positive feedback, Espinoza is hoping to expand distribution to larger stores outside her immediate area. “The challenge is to scale production to a high level while maintaining the high quality that the El Artesano brand is starting to be known for,” she said.
Espinoza further commented, “There are very talented people in Mexico, it’s really only a question of getting them to try and to do what they want. I would advise young entrepreneurs that they get their ideas and their dreams out there and understand that little by little, their work can lead to great outcomes.”
