Universidad Andrés Bello Student Carries Chile’s Flag in Opening Ceremony of 2015 Pan-American Games

Isidora Jiménez, a journalism student at Universidad Andrés Bello, was selected to carry Chile’s national flag in the Pan-American Games in Toronto. The 21-year-old student-athlete received the flag she will carry from Chile’s president, Michelle Bachelet, during a special ceremony
The ceremony took place in the Naranjos patio in La Moneda and in addition to President Bachelet, was attended by the president of Chile’s Olympic Committee, Neven Ilic, as well as team Chile athletes.
“I am honored to have been selected to fill this important role and hope to do the best for my country at the Pan-American games. Carrying the flag is such an honor,”
said Jiménez.
The final selection was made through an online vote that was organized by Emol. Isidora received 50 percent of the votes cast, compared to water skier, Felipe Miranda (31 percent) and discus thrower, Natalia Ducó (19 percent).
Isidora set the current national record in the 100 and 200 meter sprints, and during the 2015 South American Games in Lima, became one the most recognized Chilean athletes after winning two silver medals during the 100 and 200 meters).
