UNITEC Honduras Celebrates its 30th Anniversary with Keynote Address by the Former President of Mexico

In celebration of its 30th anniversary, Universidad Tecnológica Centroamericana (UNITEC) in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, hosted Dr. Ernesto Zedillo, former president of Mexico and Presidential Counselor to Laureate International Universities, who gave the keynote speech, “Globalization and the Role of Youth in the Development of the Economy of the Future,” and subsequently participated in an engaging discussion with Dr. Rosalpina Rodríguez, Executive President of UNITEC, and Dr. Marlon Brevé, Rector of UNITEC.

The conference and discussion focused on the current trends of globalization and the challenges faced by young professionals in the country.

In his message, President Zedillo said, “Today, youth are exposed to a wide range of experiences in education, employment, family, and health, which differ considerably from those of previous generations. The effects of globalization, advances in technology, and the growth of economic development greatly affect youth, who represent a large majority of the population, especially in developing countries, and are key to the future of every nation.”

The former Mexican president’s speech took place at the UNITEC Tegucigalpa campus. In attendance were representatives of government and business, diplomats, non-governmental organizations, political and educational institutions, UNITEC students and faculty, and members of the media.

“It is an honor for Unitec to celebrate its 30th anniversary with the special participation of President Ernesto Zedillo and to offer our community a valuable opportunity to exchange key knowledge for the development of our young professionals,” said Rosalpina Rodríguez, Executive President of UNITEC.

At the end of the conference, Dr. Rosalpina Rodríguez presented former president Zedillo with a painting by Olvin Ferrera, an artist and graphic designer who is a graduate of CEUTEC La Ceiba and overcame adversity and disability to become successful in his career.

Through the years, UNITEC has strengthened its commitment to transforming the future of Honduras by consolidating its fundamental pillars: quality education, internationality, academic and technological innovation, entrepreneurship, research and community engagement.
