Torrens University Australia Kicks Off Partnership with Real Madrid to Launch

Torrens University Australia announced a partnership with the Real Madrid Graduate School for a new Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Sports Management which – as an Australian first – will earn its graduates a joint degree from both Torrens University and Real Madrid Graduate School Universidad Europea, and will incorporate behind-the-scenes experience with the Real Madrid Football Club in Spain.

This is the first step of what is intended to be a long-term strategy which will see the launch of additional joint sports related courses in the future.

Real Madrid Graduate School was launched in 2006 to address the growing role of sports in global economies – and is today recognized for delivering one of the world’s top 10 Sports Management MBA programs. Both Torrens University Australia and Universidad Europea de Madrid are part of Laureate International Universities – a global network of 80 universities, teaching more than one million students in 28 countries.

“The global sports industry’s revenue is projected to reach $145 billion this year, while the Australian market was worth $27 billion in 2014, said Torrens University Australia Vice Chancellor, Professor Justin Beilby. “Increasingly, the industry requires qualified professionals to drive the business side of its performance, which is why this new joint program aims to create leaders who will add value across all sporting codes.”

“Our MBA students will benefit from the combined strength and innovative approach of both institutions, learning from global industry leaders and gaining hands-on experience at Real Madrid Football Club – ranked number one on Forbes Magazine’s ‘world’s most valuable sporting clubs’ for the past three years running,” he added.

Emilio Butragueño, CEO of Real Madrid Graduate School, Director of Institutional Relations with Real Madrid Football Club and an icon of the football world said, “Sports have evolved into a mass phenomenon – influencing societies, cultures and economies. As a result, we now need professionals with sports-focused expertise in business, management, finance and communications, and the launch of this joint MBA program will help fulfill that need.”

“This new partnership is incredibly exciting, furthering Torrens University’s strategy to collaborate with leading businesses and institutions to develop courses to specifically meet industry demand, and boost career opportunities for graduates,” said Ms Linda Brown, CEO of Laureate Australia and President of Torrens University Australia.
