Think Education Offers Australian Nursing Students Opportunity to Stay and Succeed

Think Education, part of Laureate’s network in Australia, was able to provide a much-needed alternative to many nursing students and educators left in limbo after the collapse of Careers Australia, a college that operated 14 campuses across the country. In June, Careers Australia unexpectedly announced that classes would be suspended indefinitely for their 15,000 students, due to their loss of accreditation and access to government-backed student finance programs.

Just two weeks after this announcement, Think Education took over the nursing programs from Careers Australia, and immediately enabled students and staff to continue with their work, causing many to express relief and appreciation for the opportunity provided by Think Education and Laureate. Students poured out gratitude on social media, saying they were, “overwhelmed,” “encouraged,” and “thankful.” Many students were also happy to be joining Laureate’s strong network of institutions in the Australia, where they could potentially continue with further degrees in health or other areas through Think or other Laureate institutions such as Torrens University.

“Our team’s passion to be Here for Good meant we achieved a lot in a very short space of time,” said Linda Brown, CEO of Laureate Australia and New Zealand. “Our teams started a dialogue with hundreds of staff and thousands of students via email, social media and in town hall meetings, changed campus branding, briefed staff, answered student queries and got teaching up and running in just over a week after being handed the keys to each campus. The support of our Laureate leadership and country collaborators was also key and helped us to expedite the process in a cohesive way.” Laureate Australia’s teams worked closely with government regulators to make sure that the programs were transitioned to Think in a transparent, rigorous and high-quality way.

This also expands Laureate’s footprint in the area of health sciences in the country, part of the strategic plan of the organization to reach even more students. The timeliness, care, and dedication demonstrated by the Laureate Australia team are reminders of how our Here for Good strategy and organizational priorities can go hand-in-hand.
