Student-Athlete From Instituto Profesional AIEP Recognized

Sergio Manríquez, a student in the sports management program at Insituto Profesional AIEP’s San Joaquín campus, was recognized by the Maule region for his success as a student-athlete. Sergio participated in the 2013 National Games in the 60 kilo category of karate and won a bronze medal.

“The tournament that I participated in was hosted by the National Sports Institute (Instituto Nacional de Deporte – IND), and only permits the best athlete in each sport from each region to go to the nationals. In my case, Maule asked me to participate and represent the region and I was proud to accept”

explained Manríquez.

When he was 14 years old, Manríquez was Chile’s national champion in karate. He earned a bronze medal in the South American Games in Venezuela in 2010, silver at the Pan American Games in Brazil in 2011 and bronze in the South American Games in Brazil in 2012.

“It makes me proud to represent my region as an athlete. I am now working to earn the ability to represent the region for the next two years and in 2015 I hope to be in position to go for the gold”

he said.
