Shared Service Center Leads Summit: Giving Back to The Community

Earlier this year, the Global Shared Services Center (SSC) team hosted the SSC Leads Summit in Baltimore to reflect on the lessons of 2017 and discuss upcoming priorities for 2018. The Summit brought together leaders from the Service Centers in Mexico, Chile, Brazil, and Spain.

True to the Here for Good spirit of the Laureate network, the team took advantage of being together in one city to participate in a service initiative and give back to the Baltimore City community. The SSC leadership team took time off from the summit’s agenda to participate in the Fresh Start project which is run by the Baltimore-based non-profit Living Classrooms Foundations. This program serves youth and communities in Baltimore and Washington, D.C., by providing job skills training to out-of-school youth between the ages of 17-19. This innovative program uses carpentry as a medium to teach reading, writing, math, history, and science. The team put their new carpentry skills to work by helping students build tables and beds and, more importantly, talking and sharing with the program’s participants.

“The idea of being Here for Good inspired us to participate in this activity. Laureate shares many of the same values and ideals of Living Classrooms. As an education company, being involved and giving back to the communities we serve is core to our mission,”

said Geoffrey Long, VP Global Shared Services.
