Radio and TV Alumna from Universidade Anhembi Morumbi is Nominated for a 2016 Oscar

Fernanda Carvalho, an alumna of Universidade Anhembi Morumbi (UAM), is the executive producer of the film ‘Boy and the World,’ which is the first animated film from Brazil to be nominated for an Oscar, a top Hollywood prize.

As executive producer of the film ‘Boy and the World,’ Fernanda Carvalho, a former student of the radio and television program at UAM, will represent Brazil at the 2016 Oscars. The film, directed by Alê Abreu, is making history for Brazil with its nomination.

Carvalho was responsible for managing the team, the soundtrack, and other roles and was involved in most of the production of the 24-frame-per-second film. Carvalho says she was very happy for the film to be nominated and now feels under pressure to make the next film even better. “We have the quality and we are being seen abroad,” said Carvalho. “Animation has been growing in Brazil and the Oscars add visibility. My training at Anhembi Morumbi helped me get to where I am today,” she adds.

The film is about Cuca, a boy who lives in a small village. One day, he sees his father go off looking for work, and he boards a train bound for the unknown capital. The boy then decides to pack a bag and find out where his father has gone to live. However, the child comes across a society scarred by poverty, where workers are exploited and have no future. 

The film lasts 85 minutes and the soundtrack is by the rapper, Emicida. The film, distributed to over 80 countries, has won awards at other film festivals – in South Korea, Uruguay and Germany – and has been a huge hit in France, where about 130,000 people have seen it.
