Walden University’s master of social work video series, “Sessions Episodes,” received a 2014 Silver Award in the 35th Annual Telly Awards. Founded in 1979, the Telly Awards honor outstanding local, regional, and cable TV commercials and programs as well as video and film productions and online commercials, videos, and films. Nearly 12,000 entries from all 50 states and numerous countries were submitted. Walden’s winning entry was awarded in the category of internet/online programs, segments, or promotional pieces–web series. Less than 10 percent of entries are chosen as winners of a Silver Telly—the highest honor.
Walden’s “Sessions Episodes” video series brings the classic case study method for learning into its contemporary online classroom. The series consists of several narrative arcs that correspond with elements of the Walden master of social work (MSW) curriculum, highlighting critical social issues faced by social work clients today. The stories thread through students’ coursework, connect to key conceptual aspects of the program and present social work scenarios in which students can examine, discuss, and analyze challenges faced by individuals and social workers.
A panel of more than 650 industry professionals, each a past winner of a Silver Telly and a member of the Silver Telly Council, judged the competition. The council evaluated entries according to its standard of merit to recognize distinction in creative work.
