Walden University Announces Nurses of the Year Scholarships

Walden University

In recognition of National Nurses Week, Walden University is offering 12 nursing scholarships totaling more than $300,000 to help nurses around the world make a greater impact in their organizations and their field. Four full-tuition and eight $10,000 Nurses of the Year Scholarships will be awarded to registered nurses who are making a positive difference in the lives of their patients, their organizations and the future of nursing. The scholarships include:

  • Nursing Advocate Scholarships, awarded to new students enrolling in the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE)–accredited Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Completion Program.
  • Nursing Leader Scholarships, awarded to new students enrolling in the CCNE-accredited Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program.
  • Nursing Executive Scholarships, awarded to new students enrolling in the CCNE-accredited Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program.
  • Nursing Visionary Scholarships, awarded to new students enrolling in the Ph.D. in Nursing program.

"It is a great honor to have received this generous scholarship from Walden University. My Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) will prepare me to be better equipped to continue developing healthcare professionals and ensuring ever-improving quality of care," said Dominique Valentin, deputy medical program manager of the J/P Haitian Relief Organization, who was awarded a full-tuition DNP scholarship last year. "Being a positive role model facilitates my endeavor of continuing to pursue my own growth and development for my home country of Haiti."

The scholarships, which reflect Walden’s social change mission and its commitment to provide access to quality higher education, are available to nurses who enroll as new students in Walden’s nursing programs for any start date from September through December 2014. Those applying for scholarships must submit an essay on how they made a difference, one letter of recommendation from a supervisor, a résumé or CV and official transcripts. For detailed scholarship entry requirements, visit www.WaldenU.edu/nursesoftheyear. The deadline for entries is July 21, 2014.

During National Nurses Week, Walden is also offering two free continuing education courses, The Power of Change: Nurses Make the Difference and Unlock Your Creativity, designed in a self-study format. These courses will be available until July 2. Visit http://ce.nurse.com/ce365 and http://ce.nurse.com/ce221 to take the free classes.

In addition to these scholarships, to help nursing and all other students achieve their goal of advancing their education, Walden is offering millions of dollars in grants and tuition assistance when students start their program in 2014.
