Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas Student Wins Design Competition

Nadia Torrejón, a student in the Fashion Design and Management program at Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas, won the "King Best Collection King" award sponsored by the King Corporation at the 2013 PERU EXPOTEXTIL, wining a cash prize of 3,000 soles.

"Participating in this contest was a challenge for me. At first I was not sure, but then Carla Bedoya, the director of the program, encouraged me. I knew I had all the tools and knowledge I needed, thanks to the demanding professors in our program at UPC. I had to do a lot of research, but benefitted from the support of my teachers throughout the entire process," says Nadia Torrejón.

On Thursday October 24, the student showed off her collection with much success. Alexander Gleiser, General Manager of the King Corporation, named her the winner of the Best Collection award. "Seeing my designs on the catwalk was an amazing feeling, it embodied all my work and effort. It has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life,” she concluded.

The contest included students participating from a number of Peru’s different fashion institutes, with only 12 students making it to the finals.
