The Inter American Press Association (IAPA) recognized Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC) for the investigative journalism of two Professors, Gloria Tovar and Ángel Páez, and UPC graduate Diana Félix. Their project, titled "The Value of Evidence in Legal Proceedings and Its Relationship with Impunity", suggests the application of a new Criminal Code to take into account the results of investigative reporting rigorously carried out in evaluating evidence. It also recommends a need to generate interaction among news media, press associations, schools of communication, the judiciary and Attorney General's Office.
UPC is one of eight institutions to be recognized this year and was the only Peruvian institution to win this award. As part of this recognition, UPC representatives have been invited to participate in the conference "The American system and freedom of expression," to be held by the IAPA in Washington DC, in late March, in conjunction with American University, Stanford University and the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights.
