In October 2011, Chill & Chic, opened its first boutique in the San Isidro area of Lima, Peru. Chill & Chic designs, produces, and sells stylish clothing for young female professionals. Chill & Chic ranked first among five teams selected from 150 Laureate International Universities candidates to attend in-person interviews in the first global edition of this contest held at the annual Laureate Leadership Summit in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
Chill & Chic team members include Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas graduates Cusi Saco Chung, Guillermo Medina, and Lucía Fernández. The team of UPC graduates received a $100,000 low-interest loan to launch the business described in its winning plan. Additionally, they received a scholarship for a "Designing a Fashion Collection Course" at Domus Academy, Design and Fashion School, in Milan, Italy. Executives and faculty at Domus Academy, a Laureate network institution, facilitated a number of networking activities for the UPC graduates.
More than 40 people, including officials from Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas, attended the grand opening of the boutique. According to Cusi Saco Chung, the General Manager, "None of this would have been possible without the loan from this competition and the knowledge and contacts we made through our experience at Domus Academy in Milan. I cannot thank this entrepreneurship initiative enough for this opportunity, which shows that with this type of support, we can do great things."
