The Universidad del Valle de México (UVM) celebrated the fifth anniversary of the UVM Award for Social Development/Premio UVM por el Desarrollo Social on February 24, 2011. The event honored 15 young Mexican social entrepreneurs in a ceremony at the Museo de Arte Popular in Mexico City. The award program seeks to identify, recognize and support accomplished social entrepreneurs, ages 18–29, throughout Mexico and is co-sponsored by the Sylvan/Laureate Foundation, the Universidad del Valle de México and the International Youth Foundation.
According to Dieter Holtz, CEO of Universidad del Valle de México, "The Premio UVM represents one of the many ways UVM invests in and supports Mexican youth. We are so proud to be a founding sponsor of this initiative."
As a pilot initiative of the Laureate International Universities-based YouthActionNet® program, the Premio UVM established a national program model which has been adapted by other Laureate institutions, including the Universidad Europea de Madrid (Spain), Universidade Anhembi Morumbi (Brazil) and Istanbul Bilgi University (Turkey). To date, 175 social entrepreneurs have been recognized by Laureate-based YouthActionNet® programs.
