OAS and UNITEC to Provide Scholarships to Citizens of Central America and the Dominican Republic

Recently, the Organization of American States (OAS) and Universidad Tecnológica Centroamericana (UNITEC) signed a Cooperation Framework Agreement in the areas of human development and education with the aim of establishing mechanisms and conditions to strengthen education in the Americas.

Both institutions will launch initiatives to enable individuals to receive training, teach, research and exchange academic knowledge through distance learning delivered via Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs), that are focused primarily on low-income populations. Academic and cultural events will also form part of this collaboration.

The Morazánicas Scholarship program will allow citizens of Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Belize, Panama and the Dominican Republic to study an online master’s program with UNITEC, a higher education institution which is a part of Laureate International Universities, the largest global network of degree-granting higher education institutions.

The scholarship will cover 90 percent of the total cost of the academic program the holder wishes to study. Holders will choose between two programs; a Master’s in Business Management (MBA) or a Master’s in Project Management, both of which are globally recognized courses.

“As an educational institution, we are committed to providing first-class academic programs to the beneficiaries of this agreement which we have been formalized with the OAS. We know that many Central Americans and Dominicans dream of continuing their university studies and that’s why we are making our online master’s programs available: to further advance education in the Americas,” said UNITEC’s President, Luis Orlando Zelaya during the signing ceremony of the agreement which took place at the OAS headquarters in Washington D.C.

Mr. Luis Almagro, Secretary General of OAS, Mr. Leonidas Rosa Bautista, President pro-tempore of SICA, Juan José Hurtado, CEO of Laureate Central America and Luis Orlando Zelaya, UNITEC’s President were all present.
