Students and professors from the School of Health Sciences at UNITEC together with representatives from other institutions and the San Benito Health Center, organized a campaign to raise awareness and treat dengue fever and chikungunya in the Los Pinos region. Through the campaign, more than 2,000 homes were visited.
During the home visits, students sprayed locations where mosquitos could live or reproduce and reduced the number of places where there was standing water. They provided residents with information about how to prevent dengue fever and chikungunya and discussed the importance of reducing standing water, which attracts mosquitoes and other bugs that transmit the diseases. “Untadita,” a cleaning agent that kills bacteria-causing disease, was also distributed as part of the campaign.
