The leadership of the Honduran Foundation for Corporate Social Responsibility (FUNDAHRSE) recognized Universidad Tecnológica Centroamericana (UNITEC) for the second consecutive year as a Socially Responsible Company (ESR), in recognition of meeting all the indicators that the organization evaluates to grant the certificate.

UNITEC received this recognition for maintaining policies, procedures and best practices as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy, which is delivered through seven main areas: Governance, Internal Communication, Environment, Suppliers, Marketing, Community and Public Policy.

Actions have taken place in each of these seven specific areas, including linking with government initiatives through agreements with the Ministry of Social Development, the municipalities of San Juan de Flores, Valle de Angeles, Santa Lucia, among others, as well as with the Association of Municipalities of Honduras (AMHON), the National Registry of Persons (RNP) and the Forest Conservation Institute (ICF).

Other development programs that are focused on values, leadership, self-esteem, human rights, culture, financial education, employability, entrepreneurship and technical areas are delivered to boys and men between the ages of 13 and 30 who are participating in the Goals Project (Proyecto Metas).

Through corporate volunteering, UNITEC builds homes in partnership with the foundation A Roof for my Country (Un Techo para mi País - UTPMP) in different regions of Tegucigalpa, UNITEC employees train providers on issues related to corporate social responsibility and students participate in reforestation projects in the Juana Lainez part of the city.

In the environmental area, UNITEC has a Renewable Energy and Sustainability Center (CERS), a certificate program in Management of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, campaigns to promote the collection of paper for recycling and conservation of resources. In addition, the institution created an Environmental Committee in 2011 to support UNITECO initiatives for environmental conservation with the support of the university community.

These and many other projects are performed by UNITEC employees and students through its CSR strategy. Together these efforts have led FUNDAHRSE to grant the distinction recognizing UNITEC as a Socially Responsible Company for the second year in a row, which confirms the organization’s values and principles whose activities fall within a strategy of responsibility to society and the environment.
