Ninth International Summer School at Universidad de Las Americas

2013 program focused on communication and sustainability

Ninth International Summer School at Universidad de Las Américas

The ninth UDLA International Summer School has come to a close. The theme of this year’s summer school focused on the communication of sustainability under the name of "Communication Studies: Climate-Water-Energy-Education".

In the main auditorium at UDLA’s Providencia Campus held the closing ceremonies for the ninth edition of the International Summer University, which was attended by students from institutions in Germany, Brazil, Ecuador, Mexico, Greece, Italy and Chile. During the program UDLA signed an agreement that states the concern and commitment of the university to the environment, together with other international higher education institutions.

The event was organized by The Kolleg-KMGNE from Germany, as part of a consortium of German, Chilean and Brazilian universities who are recognized by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization). On the occasion, students and teachers shared their audiovisual projects, including viral and film spots, sustainable comedy, and photos and stories through social media to achieve more sustainable development.

"It was an interesting experience and I got to work with people from different countries, not all of whom were from the audiovisual area. Bringing together all this knowledge was enriching as they are all different concepts and have different criteria that had to be managed to create the spots," said Salvador Flores, a former student and graduate of the Audiovisual Communication and Multimedia program at UDLA, who had the opportunity to direct some of the presented short films.
