Two thousand people participate in UDLA solar energy workshops

In activities that took place throughout Chile, Dr. Antonino Parisi, Dean of Engineering at Universidad de Las Américas, educated participants about solar energy and showed them how to build low cost solar panels. The use of solar panels can reduce a family's electric bills by up to 80 per cent.

More than two thousand people, young, old, and even whole families, took part in different workshop sessions, which were titled: "Create your own solar panel", that UDLA hosted in several different cities throughout Chile, to promote the use of non conventional energies in the community.

The workshops hosted by Dean Parisi, allowed him to share his knowledge of photovoltaic solar power with the participants in a simple way—so that each one could construct a solar panel for their home at low cost. In fact, a solar panel doesn't cost more than $40 USD and with 5 or 6 panels, it is possible to reduce home electricity expenses by up to 80 percent.

For Dean Parisi, these activities "bring technological advances to the community, for free, in order that, with simple materials and with their own hands, they can improve their quality of life and save money at the same time".
