UNIFACS graduates stand out in the 2011 Braskem Distinction Awards

UNIFACS graduates win 1st and 3rd place in international competition

With a record 194 entries, the 2011 Braskem Distinction Award recognized two graduates from the UNIFACS Chemical Engineering program. Created to promote innovative employee initiatives, the award highlights work that has had a positive impact on the company during the year and features projects from Braskem units around the world, including Germany, the United States and Mexico. "It's an important award in a special category, since it involves projects that bring something to the company without requiring investment," says UNIFACS graduate Admar Bueno, one of the contributors to the winning project. The 3rd place award in the same category was developed by Grece Ribeiro, another UNIFACS graduate.

According to Professor Diniz Silva, coordinator of the Chemical Engineering at UNIFACS, these results demonstrate the innovative profile and the ability of the UNIFACS students and the importance of focusing on processes. "It means they are thinking innovatively and seek the best ways to perform each job," he says. Admar highlighted the important role of the university in his academic development. "The teachers always taught me the importance of reducing energy and water consumption and greenhouse gas emission. I gained this focus and commitment through my program," said Admar, who earned five Best Student awards during the Chemical Engineering program.

The Prize - The assessment of submissions for the 2011 Braskem Distinction Award was conducted in two steps. The first round was conducted by committees composed of specialists, engineers and managers in the group with expertise in the subjects in each category, which made a pre-selection of the best designs and proceeded to the second phase, which consisted of the presentation of the work to committees composed of Braskem's directors, responsible for choosing the winners. The award was made by the President of Braskem, Carlos Fadigas, also a graduate of UNIFACS, and the CEO of Odebrecht, Marcelo Odebrecht, during an awards ceremony and celebration.
