Douglas Torres and Keila Batista, students in nursing and law, respectively, at Faculdade dos Guararapes (FG) won the most recent International Mobility Scholarships by the Santander Universities Program. Both students will use their scholarships to spend the second semester of 2014 at Universidad Europea de Madrid, in Spain.
The students were officially recognized at an awards ceremony in Sao Paulo that was attended by the president of Santander, Emilio Botin; the president of Laureate Brazil, Jose Roberto Loureiro; and pilot Felipe Massa.
As one of the winners of the competition, Keila has already begun to plan her trip. “I am doing research on everything, from transportation, to food, to places I’ll want to visit. This is an unparalleled opportunity for me that will help me to advance in my studies as I hope to continue on after completion of my undergraduate degree to earn a master's and then a doctoral degree. The international experience will greatly enhance my resume”, commented the student.
According to the director of FG’s International Office, Guilherme Berlim, the students are actively planning their experience. “This time of the year is an ideal point to being planning for an international experience. The students are spending a lot of time in the International Office, learning about potential courses, living arrangements and other things they will need to know to get the most out of the experience,” said Guilherme.
