UniNorte Recognized With the IstoÉ Award for Being a Socially Responsible Company

Centro Universitário do Norte (UniNorte) has been recognized with the IstoÉ Award (Prêmio IstoÉ) for being a Socially Responsible Company, specifically in the areas of governance and community engagement. With more than 1,700 socially focused projects that benefit more than 20,000 members of the community, UniNorte shares the commitment of the Laureate International Universities network to use education as a force for good. “All Laureate network institutions are focused on getting students involved in helping to support their local communities,” said Marcelo Medeiros, director general of UniNorte. “We believe that when our students are successful, countries and grow and societies benefit,” he stated.

UniNorte was founded 21 years ago and today offers more than 50 traditional undergraduate and technical vocational degree programs. The university also offers a wide variety of extension programs, as well as graduate programs through 13 locations distributed throughout Manaus.

Students in the university’s health science programs study in a state of the art facility that includes multi-disciplinary laboratories and clinics that leverage best practices in facility management and pedagogical processes from the Laureate network. The clinics are focused on dentistry, physiotherapy, pharmacy and nutrition, and offer low-cost services to members of the community while providing students with hands-on experience. The School of Health Sciences also organizes special events to bring services out to the community.

The institution’s education programs also conduct a number of community projects that focus on literacy, creating community libraries and organizing book drives to get books into the hands of the young people in the region.

The School of Business, Communication, and Law is also heavily engaged in the community to create a stronger Manaus. The Parada Limpa project organizes projects to help beautify the city. The Judicial Practice Center provides legal advice to members of the community under the guidance of faculty from the institution. Learn more about UniNorte’s work to be a force for good in Manuas, here.
