Laureate Brazil holds 1st meeting of Culinary Arts Leaders

In late January, Laureate Brazil hosted their first meeting of culinary arts leaders in Sao Paulo. The meeting was focused on promoting the development and launch of programs in the field as well as discussing the experiences, best practices and challenged faced by network institutions in this field of study. The institutions that participated in the meeting included Centro Universitário IBMR, Universidade Salvador (UNIFACS), Faculdade Unida da Paraíba (UNPBFPB), Faculdade Guararapes (FG, Universidade Potiguar (UnP) and Universidade Anhembi Morumbi. Sessions in the meeting focused on successful models for postgraduate courses, summer schools, exchange and national competitions, among others.

"The meeting was a time of great learning and an excellent opportunity to share information and align strategies to ensure we are delivering the best culinary arts courses and programs in Brazil," says Rosa Moraes, director of Laureate Hospitality and Culinary Arts in Brazil, who hosted the meeting.

One of the highlights of the event was the creation of a partnership between Laureate Brazil and Harald, one of the most respected traditional chocolate companies in Brazil, to encourage the use of fine Brazilian cocoa - the raw material for chocolates of the highest standard – in the countries culinary products. On the occasion, the participants visited a Harald factory located in the municipality of Santana do Parnaíba (SP).

The agreement between Laureate Harald and involves the exchange of experiences, knowledge, research, technology and reciprocal training between industry and academia. It also covers the completion of courses, workshops and tastings of products targeted for both the students and for the general public at the premises of the six institutions in the Laureate Network in Brazil that offer course and programs in culinary arts.

Also present at the launch of the partnership was Harald’s president, Ernesto Ary; Harald’s commercial director, Jacob Cremasco; and the Chief Academic Officer of Laureate Brazil, Oscar Hipolito.
