At the 2012 Laureate Leadership Summit held in Miami, Florida, Dr. Annamaría Szilágyi of the University of Liverpool Online Interactive Education Division and Dr. Emmanuel López of Universidad del Valle de México’s Guadalajara South Campus were honored with the 2012 David A. Wilson Award for Excellence in Teaching and Learning.
Drs. Szilágyi and López will each receive a $50,000 research award to conduct the research described in their winning proposals. Dr. Szilágyi will analyze cultural factors and student retention in international online graduate programs. Dr. López will research academic coaching decision-making systems based on artificial intelligence technology.
The David A. Wilson Award for Excellence in Teaching and Learning was created in 2007 by Laureate's Chairman and CEO, Douglas L. Becker, to honor Dr. David A. Wilson, a former member of Laureate Education Inc.'s board of directors, and to encourage faculty-led research on the topics of teaching and learning.
The 24 participating institutions conducted a local selection process to review and choose their top proposal for submission to the Global Selection Committee, which includes Drs. David Wilson, Manuel Krauskopf (Chair), Denise DeZolt, Cesár Morales, Germán Ramírez, and Juan Salcedo.
A special thanks to university-based contest leaders, the Global Selection Committee members, and the organizer of the David A. Wilson Award for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, Katherine Zuga, for their time and commitment to this initiative.
