The opening ceremony of Nef Elementary School, which was worked on by students from Istanbul Bilgi University’s Faculty of Architecture, was held on Thursday October 10th and was attended by the Minister of National Education Nabi Avcı and the Governor of İstanbul Hüseyin Avni Mutlu.
First year students from Istanbul Bilgi University’s Faculy of Architecture, Architecture and Interior Design worked on the construction of elementary schools in the Kağıthane and Eyüp municipalities since 2010 for their compulsory year-end summer internship. This work, which lasted between 2 and 4 weeks, BILGI students constructed school buildings by themselves under the guidance of foremen and academic staff members and have had the opportunity to experience the whole construction process; from the creation of rough designs to the final construction.
Nef Elementary School, which was created through the collaboration of Nef Construction, the Ministry of National Education, Eyüp and Kağıthane Municipalities and BILGI students who worked on the construction teams, is now opened for the use of its students with its new classrooms, gym and library.
The Faculty of Architecture approaches these summer internship programs within the scope of social responsbility since the internships aim at introducing the neighborhoods to the students more closely, both physically and socially and encourage them to contribute to the neighborhoods with their knowledge and skills.
