The Project Navigator, SeniorPCP and Movinivel, which were developed by researchers at the Universidad Europea de Madrid, aim to help the elderly and disabled maintain their independence and quality of life.
CEAPAT-IMSERSO (an initiative of the Spanish government to support projects that provide increased autonomy and independence for the elderly and disabled) and the Foundation for Business and Society presented a selection of case studies through the Opticae Research Project to highlight the innovative use of information and communication technology to provide increased autonomy for the aging. Opticae was presented in June and was included within the 2012 Work Program for Spain and the European Year of Active Ageing and Intergenerational Solidarity. Projects created by researchers at UEM are shaped by institutional and corporate actions aimed at improving the lives of older people and responding to the commitments and challenges of an aging population.
Universidad Europea de Madrid with French companies (Technosens and Mind Research Autonomy) and Spanish companies (Answare Tech, Encore and Entropy), created Navigator. This European research project was supported by through the Eurostar program. The three-year project, which began in 2009, is primarily focused on developing an integrated technological platform that facilitates access to the Internet through a computer or TV.
The SeniorPCPProject was born through the collaboration of the MATICES research group from UEM and the Business Federation for Assisting Dependents (Federación Empresarial de Asistencia a la Dependencia - FED). These groups are working together to bring the centralized and personalized planning methodology to the elderly.
The last of the projects selected by Opticae is Movinivel. It was developed by UEM and the company Cultural Management Team. Movinel is an innovative physical activity program for older people developed by renowned experts. This program creates an individualized work plan for each person depending on their medical, physical and mental condition, which leads to further work in groups, with the aim of enhancing the sociability of the participants. Movinivel also provides computer support for regulating and controlling the whole process.
