ISLA Lisboa earns university status

As of July 2013, ISLA Lisboa, a member of the Laureate International Universities network, has earned university status and has been renamed Universidade Europeia. Universidade Europeia is the first new university created in Portugal in the last two decades. The new university builds on the leadership position that ISLA, which was founded in 1962, has earned in the Portuguese higher education system.

As a university, Universidade Europeia will be able to offer new academic degree programs like engineering, psychology and design. In addition, Universidade Europeia is now accredited to deliver two new doctoral degree programs. The university’s academic structure will promote creative, critical and entrepreneurial attitudes among its students and will focus on equipping its students with the soft skills and academic preparation that they will need to exceed the demands of the labor market. Universidade Europeia will also continue ISLA’s proud tradition of providing an international environment for its students, creating graduates that are truly global citizens.
