Nominated in December 2012, Prof. Dr. Stefan Chatrath, Head of Sport and Event Management program at BiTS Berlin, won 2nd place in the German Football Association’s (DFB) science award. Prof. Chatrath received his prize on January 25, 2013 during the annual science convention of the DFB in Frankfurt.
Wolfgang Niersbach, the president of DFB personally handed Prof. Chatrath his prize. This was the first time the association has granted this award. He stated how important it is that scientists put their high quality scientific efforts into the field of soccer. The title of Prof. Chatraths dissertation is “Relevant marketing issues in the field of group consumption - an economic analysis, approaches to their solution and an empirical study on the example attending a soccer match of German premier league Bundesliga”.
The dissertation mainly focuses on the question of what marketing activities can optimize the experience of soccer matches in the Bundesliga. As part of his investigation, Chatrath questioned hundreds of fans from a leading German soccer club. Prof. Dr. Stefan Chatrath has been a member of the faculty at BiTS Iserlohn since 2010. His focus is on teaching and research in the field of sports marketing. Since August 2012, the Berlin-born Chatrath has been the Head of the Department for Sport and Event Management at BiTS in Berlin.
