On September 12, 2012, BiTS will host the 2012 Communication and Media Conference in Iserlohn, Germany. The Communication and Media Conference is a research conference, organized to address a wide range of topics in communication theory and the practical application of the Social Web.

In recent years, a trend has been observed in the way international companies make specific use of new media. More and more companies cut their traditional marketing and communication budgets in favor of digital word of mouth. This research conference intends to clarify whether this trend leads to a paradigm shift in the use of the Social Web and how internal and external corporate communication will develop in the future. A special focus of the meeting will be on how this impacts small and medium sized enterprises. As the research conference is internationally oriented, the conference language is English. The conference is aimed at scholars, practitioners as well as dedicated young researchers (Ph.D. and Master candidates) from various scientific disciplines.

Proposals for papers to be presented should not exceed 350 words and should include a short description, the methodological approach and the outcome. Submission deadline is May 18, 2012. Proposals for the conference will be blind peer-reviewed and evaluated based on relevance to the conference to ensure quality, originality, appropriateness, significance and readability. The program committee welcomes innovative approaches as well as controversial positions on the topic of new media.

BiTS welcomes all proposals for consideration. Please find further information on the conference, the registration process and the call for papers on the event website Or please contact Andreas Lax at
