On September 3, 2010, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate and 45th Vice-President of the United States of America Al Gore delivered the keynote speech at the 2010 Campus Symposium at the Business and Information Technology School (BiTS), in Iserlohn, Germany.
The Campus Symposium is a student organized and managed event at BiTS, a private university of applied sciences, which is located in Iserlohn, Germany. BiTS's mission is to provide a practical education for budding young executives with an international perspective and hands-on experience in innovative projects. As a direct result of this entrepreneurial thinking, the Campus Symposium was launched in 2005 and has taken place each year on the university's campus.
Top-class and highly-regarded leaders like former U.S. President Bill Clinton, NATO Commander-in-Chief General James L. Jones, former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair among many others have lectured before an enthusiastic audience at BiTS. Since its early concept, the Campus Symposium has matured into a major forum for international decision-makers from business, politics and science to discuss and present new perspectives on the future. In 2009, the organizational team was able to extend further into a serious exchange of ideas, contact, innovation and approaches between national and international enterprises as well as sharing the keynote speech with a global audience of more than 5,500 students and employees from throughout Laureate International Universities.
The event team decided to further develop the topic of 2009, "Green Business", and to consider the implications of economic sustainability and social responsibility to "go green" into the 2010 theme, "Sustainability: Social Reality or Green Illusion". In addition to excellent speeches from Nick Reilly (CEO, GM Europe), Dr. Thomas George (CEO DHL Freight), Matthias Mehlen (Director Corporate Affairs and Company Spokesman McDonald's Deutschland Inc.) and Jeff Archambault (Vice President Communications Disneyland Paris) Campus Symposium participants had the opportunity to spend time with Al Gore who delivered a compelling keynote speech focused on his life and the need for us all to contribute what we can to make the world a better place.
