Mr. Guy Bentley, CEO of the Blue Mountains International Hotel Management School Ltd (BMIHMS) was presented with a Distinguished Lifetime Achievement Award at the Accommodation Association of Australia's recent 2011 National Accommodation Industry Awards for Excellence. The award was presented during a glittering function at the Hilton Sydney attended by over 300 leaders and representatives from the tourism and accommodation industries.
The Accommodation Association of Australia (AAA) is the representative body for the Australian accommodation industry and members include hotels, resorts, motels, motor inns, holiday apartments, bed & breakfasts, guesthouses, caravan parks, backpackers, time shares, chains and independent operators in metropolitan and regional Australia, comprising some 110,000 guest rooms across the country.
The AAA presented their third national Distinguished Lifetime Achievement Award to Guy Bentley in recognition of his lifetime of dedication to education in the Australian accommodation industry. Guy's involvement with the tourism industry now exceeds over 30 years having commenced in the UK in the 1970's eventually leading to his current role at BMIHMS.
Prior to his current appointment Guy was the College Director of Western Sydney Institute of TAFE NSW between 2001-2004. Guy has extensive experience as a Director of Business in the general education, workplace training, outdoor recreation and tourism sectors. Guy is chair of the Tourism Hospitality Education International Centre of Excellence and an invited member of the National Committee of the Colleges of Private Higher Education (COPHE), the International Association of Hotel Schools (EUHOFA) and a member and past Chair of the Australian Association of Hotel Schools (AAHS). He is highly recognised for his outstanding contributions to the tourism training industry and hospitality higher education in Australia and received the National Training Legend Award in 2006 and the National Tourism Platinum Award in 2004 and 2009.
