Becker wins Great Friend to Kids Award

Baltimore, MD — November 5, 2008 — Laureate Education Chairman and CEO Douglas L. Becker has been honored with the Port Discovery Children's Museum Great Friends to Kids award.

The award, initiated in 1991 by the Association of Children's Museums, honors individuals who have made outstanding contributions toward strengthening education for children. Past national recipients include Fred Rogers and Dr. T. Berry Brazelton.

"Doug is truly a great friend to kids," said Bryn Parchman, President and CEO of Port Discovery Children's Museum. "We would not be here today if it weren't for his belief that this city, this state, needed a place for all children, especially those from underserved communities, to imagine, play, learn, and grow."

"I am deeply honored to receive this award," said Mr. Becker. "Nothing is more important than safeguarding and improving the lives of children. I am privileged to be able to make a difference in the lives of children through the work of Port Discovery Children's Museum."

Mr. Becker, a native of Baltimore, serves on Port Discovery's Board of Directors. He is also Chair of the International Youth Foundation.
