MatchDog, the social networking app that helps dog lovers find friends for their pets
There is now a social network developed specifically for dog lovers and their pets, MatchDog is an app that helps dog lovers find friends for their pets as well as the best products and services for dogs in their area.
MatchDog was cofounded by UVM accounting and finance graduate Juan Pablo Coppel del Castillo and his partner José David Rico Almada. The app has been very well received by dog owners in Mexico, Argentina, and Spain. MatchDog users are matched based on common interests through geolocation and tracking technology. Interests can range from arranging playdates and meeting new friends to seeking a potential mate for their furry friend.
MatchDog helps dog owners meet and chat, follow their favorite dog’s activity, match with friends, and post pictures of their own pets which can be shared and liked by other users. Since the app launched, over 20,000 users have registered for MatchDog. Of these, 40% are located in Mexico, 28% in Argentina, and 5% in Spain
MatchDog was recently selected among 300 startups from all over the world to participate in the Hubble Batch 4 acceleration program in Florence, Italy. Through this program MatchDog received significant investment and mentorship from leading business experts. The company was also featured in Season 4 of Shark Tank Mexico.
UVM Campus Hermosillo alumni and MatchDog CEO Juan Pablo Coppel del Castillo believes the dog market has huge potential for continued growth. “We realized that it was quite difficult for owners to match their pets with other dogs, it was usually done through Facebook or just asking around. This is why we decided to start a social network that would allow and foster interaction among dog lovers. “We have over 20 thousand dog lovers on MatchDog today and we expect to reach the 100,000 download milestone by the end of 2019,”
MatchDog uses a Freemium business model and is available for download in English and Spanish for Android and iOS, French and Italian versions are currently under development. Registration to MatchDog is done through Facebook profiles to verify each new user’s identity.
