Law Students from UPC Win First Place in the Eighth International Arbitrage Competition

A team composed of students, alumni and professors from the school of law at Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC) won first place in the Eighth International Arbitrage Competition. The competition was organized by Universidad Nacional de Buenos Aires and Universidad Nuestra Señora del Rosario de Colombia.

The competition is an academic initiative that seeks to support the study of international business law and arbitrage as a method for conflict resolution. This year, the organizers published a case that participating teams needed to study and be able to defend either side using judicial precedents that were related to the matter.  

The UPC team started preparing in March and team members included Luis Caffo Puccio, Lucero García Silva, Leandro García Valdez, Daniela Lozada Salazar, Arlin Mondragón Zutta, Julio Olórtegui Huamán, Cristopher Robles Lainez, Jarek Torres Llaque, Renzo Viale Ríos and Sonia Queija Alvarado; who also won first prize in the best speaker category of the competition. The team was led by Dr. Elvira Martínez and was supported by a team of professors and alumni from the university.

“The coaches and members of the team really showed that we have a great deal of talent, energy, professionalism, dedication and the ability to work in teams. I think these are the reasons why we came out on top of the competition,”

said Beatriz Miranda de Lama, director of UPC’s law program.
