Laureate Miami Office Puts the Here For Good Spirit in Action

Staff members from the Laureate office in Miami, Florida have started an initiative to donate their time and resources to their local community, recently serving at a homeless shelter in the area and providing meals to more than 1,000 people. The initiative was kick-started by Ysela Bravo, an administrative assistant in the Miami office, and more than 20 employees have participated so far. They have built a partnership with the Miami Rescue Mission, a nearly 100-year-old organization that provides services to those experiencing homelessness in the Miami area. The Laureate team has helped with making and serving meals for groups of 300 or more residents and community members each time.

“Having the opportunity to share with people in need in different communities makes us realize that we can make a change any place we go,” Bravo said. “And with the cultural diversity we have in our network, the experience is enriched because we share our unique perspectives.” The Miami office plans to grow their volunteering efforts in the months to come, involving more employees and partner organizations.
“It is an encouragement to our residents and staff to have groups like Laureate serve at the mission,” said Lianner Navarro, leader of volunteer activities at the Miami Rescue Mission. Through partnerships like this one, Laureate offices are able to put our Here for Good spirit in action, just as we do on campuses and in communities worldwide.
