History

In 1999, we started with a single university and a bold vision to change the world by expanding access to education to traditionally underserved areas of the world. We were guided by the belief that when our students succeed, countries prosper and societies benefit.

Since then, Laureate has expanded from a single university to an international network of institutions and state-of-the-art partnerships that are committed to expanding access to differentiated higher education and learning opportunities. While many of our physical operations today are in Latin America, our partnerships, online programs, and other learning platforms allow our students to become global citizens.

Over time, we have developed a range of products and initiatives that constitute the unique benefits of being part of our network. For example, we have One Campus® and One Faculty® by Laureate – integrative web-based platforms that give students and faculty members from any institution in the Laureate network access to resources to help them acquire skills, global learning, and development opportunities, and to connect with peers from around the world.

We have also forged partnerships with industry leaders to expand learning opportunities within in-demand, highly sought-after industries. We partnered with Amazon Web Services and joined the AWS Academy, which helps meet the growing employment demand for cloud computing specialists. Our innovative collaboration with IBM has allowed us to develop a state-of-the-art data science curriculum that is available to students worldwide.

As we have grown, so has our impact. Laureate is Here for Good, and our institutions embody this spirt. In 2015, we became a Certified B Corporation® and Public Benefit Corporation (PBC), embedding the Here for Good mission into our legal structure and operating principals. To date, we are one of the largest B Corps and PBCs in the world, and the only PBC to be publicly traded on any stock exchange in the world.

While our network continues to evolve, one theme remains the same: our belief in the power of education to change lives.
