Laureate International Universities will begin live broadcasts today from the Clinton Global Initiative’s Annual Meeting in New York. During this year’s meeting, which is themed “Mobilizing for Impact,” more than 45,000 Laureate students will hear from President Barack Obama, rock star and philanthropist Bono, and Archbishop Desmond Tutu.
Four Laureate students from Brazil, Malaysia and Mexico will be granted private, one-on-one interviews with several CGI attendees. The students were carefully chosen from a pool of high-achieving young people from across Laureate’s network, based on their proven interest in journalism and commitment to improving communities around the world. The students are scheduled to interview such CGI attendees as Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook’s Chief Operating Officer and author of The New York Times best-selling book “Lean In,” as well as Chelsea Clinton, a member of the Clinton Foundation’s board of directors. The conversations will be broadcast in English, Spanish and Portuguese. This is the second consecutive year Laureate has broadcast CGI’s annual meeting.
“As I travel the world visiting Laureate universities, I’m inspired by the power of ideas to drive social progress and business,” said Douglas L. Becker, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Laureate Education, Inc. “This is a terrific opportunity to expose our students to global leaders who are driving fresh ideas in a variety of fields. This is at the core of Laureate’s mission.”
Laureate’s commitments to the Clinton Global Initiative include the Richard Riley Scholarship program, which has given nearly 1,000 teachers access to graduate degree programs. Laureate’s commitment includes growing the International Youth Foundation’s YouthActionNet program, which supports social entrepreneurs around the world.
