2013 David A. Wilson Award Winners: Dr. Pascale Hardy and Dr. Evelyn Johnson

At the 2013 Laureate Leadership Summit held in Orlando, Florida, Dr. Pascale Hardy of the University of Liverpool's online programmes and Dr. Evelyn Johnson from Walden University were honored with the 2013 David A. Wilson Award for Excellence in Teaching and Learning.

Both Dr. Hardy and Dr. Johnson will each receive a $50,000 award to conduct the research described in their winning proposals. Dr. Hardy’s proposal is titled “Knowledge creation and transfer in the workplace: an empirical assessment within an online action learning environment”. The research will focus on investigating how students in the Laureate-University of Liverpool DBA absorb the knowledge gained from the program, combine it with their experiential knowledge and apply it in their workplace. The project will also help identify and amend weaknesses in the program.

Dr. Johnson’s proposal is titled “Enhancing an online quantitative research course through increased interaction”. It will focus on determining the impact of the use of interdisciplinary, synchronous and interactive instruction on student understanding of and performance in quantitative research methodology and statistics.

The David A. Wilson Award for Excellence in Teaching and Learning was created in 2007 by Laureate's founder, Chairman and CEO, Douglas L. Becker, to honor Dr. David A. Wilson, a former member of Laureate Education, Inc.'s board of directors, to encourage faculty-led research on the topics of teaching and learning.

The 21 participating institutions in the Laureate network conducted a local selection process to review and choose their top proposal for submission to the Global Selection Committee, which includes Dr. David Wilson, Dr. Manuel Krauskopf (Chair), Dr. Denise DeZolt, Dr. Bernardo González Arechiga, Dr. Águeda Benito, Dr. Germán Ramírez, and Dr. Juan Salcedo.
