Motion Vibes at European University Cyprus helps hearing impaired students ‘design’ sound

The European University Cyprus has implemented a one-of-a-kind program for hearing impaired students. Motion Vibes is an innovative project through which hearing impaired students can add sound to moving images during their Motion Graphics and Animation course.

The project was developed and implemented by Demetra Englezou, 3D design and animation instructor at European University Cyprus, as part of the activities of the Cultural Studies and Contemporary Arts Laboratory. Motion Vibes is based entirely on the relationship between kinesiology and sound using vibrations. The students use apps with a vibration output that depending on the ripples of the music, allows them to "feel" the sound and synchronize it to the moving image. The program was showcased at the Motion Design Education Summit in Dublin, Ireland as Motion Vibes: An Educational Project.
