Offering undergraduate and graduate diploma qualifications, the school is widely recognized for its digital design and 3D animation programs. Media Design School also offers programs in graphic design, creative advertising, digital media, and game development. The school is accredited by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority under the provisions of the Education Act 1989 and was one of New Zealand’s first private tertiary providers to offer world-class, innovative NZQA-approved qualifications in the digital creative sectors.

In 2012, Media Design School created the Bachelor of Creative Technologies (Game Art) and the Bachelor of Software Engineering (Game Programming). The comprehensive three-year bachelor degree programs have been developed in close collaboration with local and international game studios to ensure graduates are primed to enter the industry.

Media Design School has been ranked among the most creative schools in the world in the past decade by YoungGuns Awards body. Students from Media Design School have won:
