The Premio UVM por el Desarrollo Social / UVM Award for Social Development was established in 2006 and was the first local YouthActionNet program launched on a Laureate campus. It was the result of a global partnership between the Universidad del Valle de México (UVM), Laureate International Universities and the International Youth Foundation. The program identifies and supports young social entrepreneurs, ages 18 to 29, across the country, while strengthening the youth social innovation sector as a whole. The initiative has recognized and supported more than 150 young social entrepreneurs in its over 10 years of operation, and has become a key member of the social entrepreneurial ecosystem in Mexico.
Annually, the awards recognize 15 young social entrepreneurs to receive:
- Public recognition at an awards ceremony and through IYF publications and promotions
- Cash awards to support their work
- Training sessions in topics relevant to their work, such as leadership development, project management and social marketing
- Access to a global network of YouthActionNet® alumni
