The inaugural class received Premio Protagonistas del Cambio UPC / UPC Champions of Change Awards in September 2011.

The Premio Protagonistas del Cambio UPC / UPC Champions of Change Award was launched in 2011 and is a collaborative effort between Laureate International Universities, the International Youth Foundation and the Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC).

The program seeks to identify, recognize and support accomplished social entrepreneurs, ages 18 to 29, throughout Peru. Each candidate must be the founder or cofounder of an organization that is having a positive social impact and has operated for at least a year. The award’s extensive application and social process have involved a diverse array of Peruvian entrepreneurs since the inception of the program.

Each year, the program selects 10 young social entrepreneurs to receive:

  • Public recognition at an awards ceremony and through IYF publications and promotions
  • Cash awards to support their work
  • Training sessions in topics relevant to their work, such as public relations, leadership, fundraising and teamwork
  • Access to a global network of YouthActionNet® alumni
