Global Days of Service

Global Days of Service

Every year during the month of October, Laureate’s Global Days of Service provide an opportunity for students, faculty and staff at institutions and offices all over the world to come together to express their commitment to their local communities and to celebrate the impact of our organization. Creating meaningful impact in their communities is a priority of all Laureate institutions, and Global Days of Service is a chance for Laureate campuses to showcase the social impact efforts that take place throughout the year on their campuses.

Global Days of Service began as an initiative of Walden University, a Laureate network institution, in 2006 and was quickly adopted by the entire Laureate International Universities network. Laureate’s mission to be Here for Good in the communities we serve has a resonance on every Laureate campus, and each network institution or office displays their commitment to this mission in their own way. Global Days of Service is one time of the year when the entire network comes together to celebrate the unique role every part of our network has in their community.

In October 2016, the Laureate network came together to record the largest Global Days of Service effort ever, with more than 22,500 volunteers contributing over 220,000 hours during the month. The work spanned 16 countries, 36 Laureate institutions or offices and included more than 220 service efforts. From planting new trees in deforested areas in rural Honduras to designing and building new community spaces in Italy to providing vital health education courses in Brazil, it was a truly international and multidisciplinary act of service to local communities.
