Miguel Carmelo is the president of Universidad Europea, chief executive officer of Laureate International Universities Europe and a member of the Laureate International Universities Executive Committee.
He is also the president of the American Business Council.
He holds a bachelor's degree in economics and business studies from Complutense University of Madrid and a Ph.D. from the Autonomous University of Madrid.
From 1982 to 2000 he worked at Unilever España, where he held various leadership positions. In 1990, he became the vice president of marketing, in 1993 he became the vice president of a European Department in the UK with responsibility for 17 countries, and in 1997, he was the CEO and general manager of Lever España.
For over 20 years he worked with the teaching departments of several universities in Madrid, as well as with Kingston University. He was also an honorary professor at the Autonomous University of Madrid.
Miguel Carmelo has started a personal blog, in which he reflects upon the role of the university in society as an institution and a space for debate, and discusses how those things are key factors in its progress.
He is the co-author, with Sergio Calvo, of the book Branding Universitario. Marcando la diferencia (Branding for Universities, Marking the Difference), published by Delta Publicaciones.
